Caves In The Rock – Chapter 6: A Modern Day Elijah

There is a case to be made that the last days Elijah the prophet is now present in the world.

In the Book of Malachi, we are told that before the day of the Lord we should expect to see Elijah present on the earth:

Malachi 4:5:  Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

In the Old Testament, Elijah is used by God to confront the apostasy of the Northern Kingdom of Israel and the wicked King Ahab and his wife Jezebel.  Elijah declares a three-year drought from God and then famously confronts the 850 prophets of Baal at Mt Carmel – in which he calls down fire upon his water-soaked offering to God and has the false prophets put to death.  In response, we see the onlookers – all the children of Israel—fall on their faces and proclaim “The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!” (1 Kings 18:20-39).

During the time of Jesus’ earthly ministry, we know that He told His disciples that John the Baptist was the “Elijah who is to come” of His day.  Jesus said that it was of John that it was written “Behold, I send my messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You” (Matthew 11:7-15).  In the last days we know we should expect another prophet, one who will operate in the spirit of Elijah, confront apostasy and once again prepare the way before the coming of the Lord.

In our time there is clearly a candidate – Rabbi Jonathan Cahn.

In the time since the attacks of September 11th 2001 (referred to as ‘911’), Rabbi Cahn has risen to national prominence and produced a series of books that are critical in understanding the times within which we live.  His rise began with the publishing of his first book ‘The Harbinger’ in 2011.   In this book he demonstrates that America has entered an Old Testament pattern of judgement triggered by our turning away from God and disregard for our original Christian covenant.  He leads us to consider that we are following in the path of the northern kingdom of Israel, as those tribes turned from Jehovah to worship idols and pagan gods.  As such, their hedge of protection was removed and Assyria became the tool with which God would punish these tribes.

Jonathan Cahn has shown that the U.S. has received warnings from God– that he calls harbingers—which include the attack of September 11th 2001.  As such, we are following in the footsteps of Israel:

“Before God judges a nation, He sends warning,” explains Cahn. “He sent warning to ancient Israel. He even allowed its enemies to breach its borders in a devastating strike that would traumatize the nation. It was a wake-up call, the call to return to God. But the nation responded with defiance. God then gave nine harbingers of judgment, nine prophetic signs, alarms and foreshadows of what was to come. Now America is the nation in rapid departure from God’s will. And God likewise allowed an enemy to breach its borders in a devastating strike – the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. It was, likewise, a wake-up call. But America, like Israel, has not responded with repentance, but with defiance. And now the nine harbingers of judgment have reappeared and have done so on American soil.” (WND Staff)

Jonathan Cahn refers us to the Book of Isaiah, where we see an amazing account detailing the arrogance of the Northern Kingdom.  After an attack by Assyria on the lands of Zebulun and Naphtali – an attack that was part of a judgment by God against their apostasy—the response by Israel was to proclaim that they would just build back stronger.  These were the words of the leaders in Israel in response to this attack:

Isaiah 9:10: “The bricks have fallen down,
But we will rebuild with hewn stones;
The sycamores are cut down,
But we will replace them with cedars.”

Rabbi Cahn reveals that on September 12, 2001—one day after 911—Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle brought the exact same quote to the Senate floor:

“I know that there is only the smallest measure of inspiration that can be taken from this devastation. But there is a passage in the Bible from Isaiah that I think speaks to all of us at times like this. ‘The bricks have fallen down but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled but we will replace them with cedars.’ That is what we will do. We will rebuild and we will recover…”  (Daschle 9-12-2001)

The Senate Majority Leader entered into the national record the same quote used by Israel, even though just before the above quote appears the following line that clearly testifies that this is about defiance:

Isaiah 9:9:  …Who say in pride and arrogance of heart

And in response to this, God then states that His anger is therefore not turned away:

Isaiah 9:12-13:  Therefore the Lord shall set up
The adversaries of Rezin against him,
And spur his enemies on,
The Syrians before and the Philistines behind;
And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth.
For all this His anger is not turned away,
But His hand is stretched out still.
For the people do not turn to Him who strikes them,
Nor do they seek the Lord of hosts.

Then, as now, we see an appropriate statement: “For the leaders of this people cause them to err” (Isaiah 9:16).

Rabbi Cahn shows us that nine harbingers – ranging from Tom Daschle’s quote of Isaiah, to the use of quarried stone, to an actual sycamore tree present at ground zero, and to the rising of the new Freedom Tower – have all appeared in the U.S. (The 700 Club).  As the decade after 911 continued we would then see  Barack Obama visit the new tower being erected at ground zero and  sign a steel girder with this message: “We remember,” he wrote. “We rebuild. We come back stronger!” (WND Staff).

Other things have occurred as well.

In September 2012, we witnessed references to God repeatedly booed at the Democrat National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina (Carr).

On October 16th 2013, floor stenographer and Christian Dianne Reidy was removed from the House of Representatives and subsequently fired after she took control of a microphone and chastised the assembly, repeatedly referencing God by stating that “He will not be mocked.”  She claimed that the Holy Spirit spoke through her and that “It was clear to me that this was about judgment on our nation — that it was a warning for our nation.”  The audio of her one-minute speech is here.

On June 26, 2015 the U.S. turned its back on Biblical marriage, when the Supreme Court (Obergfell v. Hodges) legalized same-sex marriage, and we went so far as to light up the White House with rainbow colors in celebration.  This would be followed in 2022 by the passing of the Respect for Marriage Act which would codify same-sex marriage into law.

Jonathan Cahn points out that another significant sign occurred on September 20, 2016, when the sign of Baal appeared in New York City.

The Children of Israel sacrificed their children to this god in the Old Testament, and now in New York City – as another sign of our departure from God – a reproduction of the Arch of Baal was unveiled before leaders of New York.  Before Roe v Wade was passed in 1973, New York had already become the first state to legalize abortion in the U.S. in 1970, and can be viewed as the abortion capital of America.

From here the Arch of Baal moved to Washington D.C – the city where abortion was made legal throughout the U.S. – where it was erected on September 26, 2018.  (Cahn J. ).

Next, New York, the site of the 911 attack, then legalized late term abortion.

On January 22, 2019, the One World Trade Center was capped with pink light to celebrate the passing of New York’s abortion bill, ‘The Reproductive Health Act’.

Signed into law Jan 22, 2019 by Governor Andrew Cuomo, it was passed on the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision.  This law legalized late-term abortions, removed abortion from the criminal code, and expanded who can perform abortions to nurse practitioners, physician assistants and midwives  (NY Abortion Law: May God Have Mercy).

On November 3rd 2020 we then witnessed the United States elect Joe Biden as President.

This occurred even after a national assembly was called by Rabbi Cahn in September of 2020 to pray and seek repentance before God (Refer to Chapter 8 ‘The Return’).  The election of Biden would see allegations of massive voter fraud that would plague the election and further divide the country.  By the time of his inauguration on January 20th, the nation was so fractured that we witnessed a barb wire fence erected at the U.S. Capital Building, and an estimated 25,000 National Guard Troops standing guard (Schwartz).

Video: Jonathan Cahn, Message to Joe Biden and America, Jan 2021

In January 2021, Jonathan Cahn issued an additional warning to America to turn from our current path and change course in our national policies; a warning that once again would be largely ignored.

Regardless, under the newly-elected Biden and his far-left agenda our nation would continue its tragic decline.

We would see inflation and gas prices skyrocket, the supply chain fall into ruins, the southern border erupt in chaos, critical race theory sweep through the country, and transgenderism emerge as a powerful force.

On May 6, 2021 Joe Biden became the first U.S. President to actually omit the word ‘God’ from the National Day of Prayer Proclamation (Foust).

This was followed by another affront to God, when on September 24, 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the ‘Women’s Health Protection Act’.   This was a largely symbolic act done in anticipation of the pending Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade—but they did indeed make a statement—as this was the most aggressive abortion bill in U.S. history.

Also, in September of 2021 we witnessed the U.S. abandon Afghanistan which perhaps presented us with a dramatic capstone regarding God’s judgement of America.  Few may realize that this humiliation may have signaled that the era of the United States as the world’s leading superpower may have just come to an end.

In another sad irony given Rabbi Cahn’s observations regarding 911, in 2022 we would see Biden sign into law HR 5376, which is a bill actually called ‘Build Back Better.’

The rising tide of the LGBTQ movement was on display in June of 2023, when the Biden Administration placed the rainbow flag flanking, and at equal height with, the U.S. Flag at the White House—which is a violation of U.S. Flag Code.

The unrelenting national decline and abandonment of God continues to go unchecked…and all of this has occurred in the wake of the harbingers warned about by Jonathan Cahn—which we as a nation have ignored.

Over the last decade, Jonathan Cahn would author a series of books all of which are important in understanding the signs of the times.  On September 1st of 2020, Jonathan Cahn finally released ‘The Harbinger II:  The Return’, his sequel to ‘The Harbinger’.

In The Harbinger II Jonathan Cahn goes into even greater detail regarding the cycle of judgement within which we now reside.  Here he points out that after an opening strike by an adversary as parts of God’s initial judgement, there is then a 19-year period for a nation to repent and return to Him.  This window expired on September 11th 2020, 19 years after the attacks of 911.  Rabbi Cahn states that a final time of shaking occurs as part of this 19-year cycle of warning and judgement…and in 2020 America did appear experience this year of shaking.  The Prophet Jeremiah revealed what would we should expect during this 19th year – plague and pestilence upon the land.  In 2020, the plague that swept America and the world was Covid-19 (CBN News).

As Biblical signs occur all around us that signal the immediacy of the Book of Revelation and Second Coming of Christ, we know that Elijah must appear in the land—and with the rise of Rabbi Jonathan Cahn on the world stage we may very well have seen this critical End Time milestone accomplished.

Now—with harbingers appearing in the land and a seven-year time of warning between eclipses in progress—it is important to recall the original covenant made by our founding fathers…that we barely even acknowledge in today’s world.
